Northern Italy Trip - Tuesday, September 25th

We woke up the next morning and enjoyed a light breakfast before hitting the road for the
La Cappuccina Winery.

La Cappuccina is a leader in organic wine making.
Their grapes grow in an area that is covered in basalt rock.  It shows up everywhere.

Some final, early morning shots from Pavia.

 Just an interesting bridge.
 We have arrived!

We had a brief tour of some of the buildings, including
La Cappuccina's Chapel.

As we headed to one of the main buildings, we could see evidence of the black basalt rock all over.

There is a very specific pattern that shows up on the labels for their bottles.
That pattern comes from the fresco at the top of this building.
We went down into one of the cellars were they had a display set up showing how extensive the basalt is.

Then we sat down to a 5 star lunch and afterwards went for a tour of some of the upper elevation vineyards.

 The basalt shows up everywhere.

We drove back down through the town to the winery, where we saw the production side of things.

Drying the grapes so they can make dessert wines.  Above is the modern way, in trays. Below, I'm standing in front of the traditional way, hanging on nets.
