We got up Wednesday morning and after a typical breakfast (coffee, croissants, or other pastries) we headed east to The Collalto Winery in the prodigious Conegliano Valdobbiadene DOCG.
After a brief meeting in the offices,
we boarded the winery tour van and
headed to Castello San Salvatore
for an Aperitivo.
The Winery, Castello San Salvatore and Castello Collalto are owned by
Princess Isabella Collalto.
The Castellos, many of her vineyards and surrounding woodlands are protected
World Heritage Sites.
However, she receives no government funding
for their maintenance.
We took those stairs to go look out to the north.
This picture shows how much of an oasis Collalto is as compared to the rest of the area.
You can literally draw a line.
We then headed into the castle, where Isabella explained how it had been destroyed during WW2 and that her father, hoping to use it to generate income, rebuilt it.
This is the original medallion.
The picture below shows what
her father started with.
Our aperitivo on the terrace.
Collalto Extra Dry Prosecco.
Then it was back down to the courtyard
for a trip through the vineyards and forests
to the Castello Collalto for lunch.
